my immortal is a fanfiction written by tara gilesbie. i consider it to be a satirical masterpiece that transformed pop culture as we know it.

the protagonist, ebony dark'ness dementia raven way, is a jab at the flawless character archetype known colloquially as a "mary sue". ebony is portrayed as an edgy yet beautiful girl, always rebelling against authority but never experiencing consequences for her actions.

her 'goffik' aesthetic is described in excruciating detail; an entire paragraph will consist of ebony's outfit for the day. the author used ebony's character to live vicariously through, which is made increasingly obvious as all the characters fall in love with her.

the sex scenes are written with awkwardness that is to be expected of a sexually uneducated teenage girl, replacing the proper terms for genitals with odd euphemisms such as "thingy" and "you-know-what".

the fic is technically a harry potter au, but the existing characters have all been renamed and mischaracterized to the point that it may as well be an original setting. at one point, the author acknowledges this with the explanation that "DRACO IS SOO IN LUV wif her that he is acting defrent!" harry himself has been nicknamed "satan" and is only referred to by that. i dont know why she did this
